Classroom Expectations

We are off to an exciting start this year in FFL! This year I am teaching both 8th grade, plus 7B & 7C Health, Character Ed, and P.E.
Mondays and Fridays are designated Physical Education classes, and Tuesdays and Thursdays are Health/Character Education classes.
All students are expected to be properly dressed with appropriate athletic shoes on P.E. days, and arrived to class prepared with pencil/pen and paper on Health/Character Ed. days. Water bottles or sports drinks are allowed to replenish lost electrolytes, but no other juices or foods during class. All students are required to fully participate in ALL activities/exercises, unless otherwise instructed by a written parental or physician's excuse!
Students will not have homework in my class, except for occasional completion of Health projects. Students will have graded quizzes and in-class assignments. Each student has a courier containing all grades and assignments completed during class. These couriers will remain in the classroom at all times. Parents/Guardians are more than welcomed to schedule time with me to view his/her student's progress or email me for an update.
The school year is divided into three units. Each unit, the students will be responsible for one project worth 15% of their grade.
Parents get involved and encourage your student. I believe that our students health/wellness is the most important key to better equipment them in achieving the highest possible performance in all areas of their life. A healthier student...better focus...better performance!!!

Grading Scale

So that you will have a detailed understanding of our class and how each student will be graded, please examine the following:

Physical Education = 60% of your grade.
Breakdown of that 60% is… ***45%-P.E. Skill
***15%-P.E. Content/Fitness plans/projects
(Student may earn 5 points/day = max 10 points/week, 10 pts x 12 weeks (per unit) = Total of 120 points available)

Character Education = 10% of the overall grade
Health = 30% of your grade. Breakdown of that 30% is… ***15%-Major projects/research assignments
***10%-Regular graded in-class assignments
***5%-Quizzes
*** All major assignments and quizzes will be announced at least a week in advance. Make-up assignments are allowed for excused absences. There will be a major project at the end of the 12-week term that will be included in the overall term grade for the course.
Grades at ACMS provide solely an indication of student performance in relation to academic standards of content knowledge and skills ("what students should know and be able to do") for a particular assessment or for a class as a whole. The performance categories that correspond with each letter grade are as follows:

Exceeding the Standard-A+(approximately 100)
Meeting the Standard-A(approximately 90-100)
Approaching the Standard-B(approximately 80-90)
Just Beginning to work towards the Standard-C(approximately 70-80)
Not Yet Moving towards the Standard/Incomplete-NY(approximately 60-70)

Thank you, in advance, for your involvement and encouragement in your student’s achievement. Please email me any of your questions or concerns.
